Message from the Acting General Manager
Since being appointed as the Acting General Manager in January this year, together with the Board and administration of East Waste, several issues that have been outstanding for some time, have now been addressed.
East Waste has fulfilled its obligations in reviewing its Charter and has made recommendations to its Member Councils to accept the revised Charter. Member Councils are currently reviewing this and it is hoped that the new Charter will be gazetted in early 2011.
The Board commissioned a consultancy to investigate a fairer way to allocate overhead costs to the collection services provided to Member Councils by East Waste. The recommendations from this consultancy have been endorsed by the Board and the new charging methodology commenced on 1 July 2010.
East Waste employs 39 permanent employees and up to 6 casual employees to operate and maintain 31 trucks servicing approximately 130,000 households across the suburbs of Adelaide. To ensure that East Waste maintains the highest possible service standards for the residents of its Member and Client Councils, the Board recently authorised the purchase of five new trucks in the 2010/2011 budget. The first three of these trucks went into service in August and a further two new trucks will be operational in October this year.
This significant capital expenditure by the Board will see a more efficient and cost-effective service provided for the Member Councils of East Waste.
The manner in which East Waste records information from contact with residents is being upgraded to ensure that East Waste meets the expectations of the community it serves and measures the performance indicators set by East Waste in consultation with its Member Councils. A review of all policies and procedures within East Waste is being undertaken with a view to achieving quality accreditation in the 2010/2011 financial year.
The management structure of East Waste is being changed to achieve a more streamlined, sustainable and responsive organisation.
East Waste has an annual business plan that can be accessed on this web-site in the near future.
