Collection Services

Eastern Waste Management Authority Inc.
Existing Services
East Waste provides a range of collection services to its Member and Client Councils that covers the kerbside collection of household waste, dry recyclables and green organics. East Waste operates and maintains a fleet of 31 collection vehicles, and employs 37 permanent staff and 1 permanent part time.
Customer Satisfaction
East Waste monitors the level of council and ratepayer satisfaction by recording all phone calls made to its call centre onto a database. This information is collated and compared with a set of key performance indicators for its collection services. As an example, less than 0.1% of bins collected during the year were genuinely missed by East Waste drivers.
Regular meetings with all Client and Member Councils are held to ensure that its services meet their expectations.
Truck Replacement Policy.
The existing Business Plan of East Waste includes a truck replacement schedule which is strictly adhered to by the Board. Two replacement trucks were introduced to the fleet this financial year servicing the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.
Truck Depot.
In September 2004 East Waste moved into a new, purpose built, depot at Ottoway. This depot comprises office builidings, washbay using captured rain water and fully equipped workshop. These facilites allow for more "on site" maintenance of vehicles saving time and money whilst still being conveniently located for any outsourcing of repairs.
The depot is close to processing facilities for all materials collected by East Waste.
Human Resources.
The permanent drivers of East Waste are covered by an Workplace Agreement. This innovative agreement has been renegotiated on at least three occasions and provides an excellent platform to encourage teamwork, improved performance, safety, reasonable wage outcomes and training. The agreement is renegotiated every four years. |
